Here is the second of 4 panels depicting the seasons, and is currently in the kiln. Looks like a mess right now, but then so did the previous one until it was fired and painted. We will see. I'm curious about the pink as it is pale and some of it is iridized and some of it is not. I've never fired iridized glass before, so that in itself should be interesting to see. I had not initially intended to add yellow to it, but with just the greens and pink, it was lacking color.

Here is a pic of it before firing, and this is my kiln, an Olympic Champ XL.

this is going to be such a nice set Kev.  The irrid will be interesting.  I've fired it before and prefer to fire the irrid side 'up'.  Did you make note of how it was when you placed it?  Mind you, you're talking frit here so it isn't that big a deal.  I found when firing the irrid side up the piece comes out of the kiln smoother - it has a decidedly different feel to it.  You may want to experiment a bit when you have something bigger to fire so you can decide which way you prefer it.  Looking forward to seeing this tomorrow when it's out of the kiln.

Oh Anne...spring really sucks! the pink is way too light and I'm not happy with it at all. I wil proceed and paint it though and see if I can salvage it..I might as well at this  point. I'll post a pic later today.

Oh that's a real drag, so disappointing! I feel for you! Can you glue a couple of other pieces of frit on the pink and just let it fire in with the paint fire?

No...the paint does not fire hot enough to melt the glass. I'll just paint it and try to work with it. If I fuse it again, i will loose what texture I already have.

right...you're firing to 1150.  I forgot! Yes, and another fuse would really change the structure. Darn. Well maybe the painting will make it work for you.  Good luck.

Well I must say, when I took this piece out of the kiln this morning, I was somewhat disappointed with it, but thought I would continue pursuing it..I am so glad I did. I absolutely love it now. The pink almost looks clear/white, but I really like it. I have the paint cooking now. The pice will fire lighter than shown in the last pic, so hopefully I'll be just as happy with it.  If not, I can always add more paint and fire again. I'll post a pic when it is done.

Wow, I'm glad you decided to keep on keeping on with that piece, it's looking very pretty! I can see what you mean about the pink looking so pale, but it really looks nice! Like Spring! When the foliage is still sparse and a few flowers getting ready to show off their stuff!
I love exclamation points!

Quite a nice piece of work Kev.  It's "different", that's what catches my eye about it.
I'd argue whether it has a "spring" feel to it,  it kinda leans towards a summery look.

But hey, you're the artist, keep at it.
