In the past I've only been able to repair a piece by taking the whole thing apart and starting over...

Well my mom made the horse fan shown below for Toni for Valentine's Day and it arrived broken (our first broken piece ever) so I had no choice but to attempt a repair... then last night Toni was in her room playing with a friend and a ball hit the top of the teddy bear fan causing her to have an utter breakdown so I had no choice but to promise to fix it this weekend while she is at her grandparents'...

I'm really proud of how they both came out and the fact that I was able to do it all by myself....

Thanks Kev,

I'm so proud of myself I think I'm going back upstairs to fix some more -- I have a whole basket full (I used to save repairs for when my mom visits and she did them).

You go girl.  See what we can do when our children are hurting.  Great job and you should be proud for taking that step out of your comfort zone.

Exactly what Joan said!  Good job on the repairs....boy will you mother be glad to hear this!  I know that when I attempted my first repair, it was with a lot of trepidation....I was sure I was going to destroy all the pieces of glass that surrounded the one I was going to try to fix.  Now...it's no big deal, but getting past that first repair job is a hurdle.

Ya done good!  De

Thanks Joan and De

I did destroy the first repair I attempted by myself...

the picture below is of a different version of the one I tried and failed miserably -- I had to remove the largest blue piece and ended up breaking both purple that touched it...

I'm just so glad I was able to do these -- I actually did a third last night that was considerably harder and it went well too except I cut the waterglass in the wrong direction... I'm leaving it though, the piece is so small that most people aren't going to even notice...

Way to go! After a few of these, you just might have the confidence to start doing repairs for others!

I've only made repairs on a couple my own pieces, and while they were not extremely difficult, I was surprised at the amount of time it took to melt all the solder away without overheating the surrounding glass pieces. Ugh! But glad to have done it and learned a little something along the way.
