Here's a project that I started this weekend while snowed in and no place to go.  I haven't decided on what glass to use for the background and I'm still playing around with the facial colors. I'm open to all suggestions and look forward to your comments.

I may also change a few of the spot outline pieces to the lighter beige and brown glass that is on the right side of the picture to blend the facial colors more evenly (hope this makes sense).

The original pattern called for the image to be enlarged by 568 percent for a final size of 24 x 57, I enlarged to 368 percent and the finished size is 17.5 x 35.

I made two copies of the pattern. One is for placement and the other I have on my lightbox and I mark the glass that way, no additional paper cutting and that way I can see the flow of the glass.  I will be running reinforcement at the lateral lines of the background pieces and probably wire reinforcement horizonally along the body outline.

Oh he's so cute!!  and wow, 24 x 57 would be one large panel..but I'd bet it would look magnificent, but I'd have reduced it down some too.
I like the blue background that they show in the Aanraku book, but I was thinking that maybe something that reminded me a little more of sky might be nice, such as Youghi's NN63 Stipple... http://www.youghioghenyglass.com/stainedglass/images/popimages/New_Stipple/nn63spLG.jpg

It almost looks like they used this one:  http://www.youghioghenyglass.com/stainedglass/images/popimages/Y_6010hs.jpg

And that got me thinking that this might be pretty:  http://www.youghioghenyglass.com/stainedglass/images/popimages/Y_3060hs.jpg

Both of the above are Youghi, Virtuoso, High Strike glass.

I also gave some thought to the line from his neck down..making that an African earth color..sort of tan/green combo, with a sky type glass from that line up..I'm not sure whether that would take the focus off the Giraffe though.  But it's certainly doable where they've drawn the cut lines.

He's very cute, can't wait to see how to complete him!

I have no idea where this is going (hopefully I will sell it), but I just love this pattern and every time I was in the glass shop I stopped and looked at this book, so I took the plunge.

De, I love your glass suggestions and I too was thinking along the lines of dividing the background into grass/ground and then sky or sunset.  I was also thinking about adding leaves handing down in the top right corner and possibly doing them either as an overlay (adding dimension) or in the panel.

I plan on cutting the head today and seeing if I need to redo some of the outline pieces.  I usually foil and solder as I go, but this time since I may be making glass changes, I will foil afterwards.

I'll post pictures as I go.  And thanks everyone for the input and comments.

Here's the progress as of this afternoon.  I think I'm going to put the dark brown on the sides of the upper lip, light beige for the ears with the med brown on the inside.  Haven't decided the color for the horns, although I'm leaning towards the dark brown.  Ideas/suggestions?

Wow Evelyn you've gotten quite alot done on him today!  He's looking good!  I did a little searching for you and found the pic I've attached..it appears to me as if the horns are very similar to the color on the face.

I like this pattern and you're doing a great job!  Can't wait to see what you do with it!

What a lovely piece that's going to be Evelyn! Did you make it up in Glass Eye?
That's going to be a real charmer when light passes through it.

Its from a Aanruk (sp?) book and I just took it to the FedEx store and enlarged on their machines.
I have Glass Eye, but I'm still learning to use it, so I either enlarge at FedEx or draw it up myself.
