Well I am very sorry it took so long to get this done.  I have had a computer virus, and I had a car wreck.  The wreck is going to cost me more, but the computer being gone feels worse.  LOL! Oh well >    Stuff Happens

We had a great trip to Bogenrief.   First we stopped at the stained glass studio in Sutherland Iowa, and did a walk through there.  I was unhappy to see the Jungle Elephant panel was gone.  They said it had been taken to Atlanta, Ga and was there for 3 days and was going to be auctioned, but they had an offer and sold it to Tyler Perry.  He is a comedian, tv star, movie producer, etc.

We did see many other panels, some being worked on, and I tried to get a lot of pictures, but my camera skills leave a lot to be desired.  I will post some of the better pictures, even though they may not be good pictures.

First pic> a panel they were working on
Second pic> a lighted panel hanging in their hall
Third pic> another lighted panel in the hallway
Fourth pic> a close up of the hand joan had asked about.  Much easier to see in this pic.

Some more pics.

Thie first one here is my daughter Emily sitting by 2 lamps, the blue one was her favorite of all.  Wish I could buy it for her, but i didnt have $7,500.00 with me.  The other one is magnolias if I remember right, with overlays, and cost on that one is $25,000.00.  Pocket change huh!  LOL

The next pic is another lamp they had in the "lamp room".

The third pic was hanging in the gym of the school where they have their studio.  If I remember correctly it is 52 inches in diameter, and all bevels.  Stunning to see in person (as were all of the things we saw).

The last pic is a close up of the blue lamp in the pic above with Emily.  It was really beautifu, and she fell in love with it.

From here we went on to Spencer Iowa to the studio where they do glass blowing.  Emily wasnt aware I had planned to have them make her a tie dye glass.  They had never made anything tie dye before, and werent sure if it would turn out.  As it ended up it looks more like polka dots from a distance, but up close you can see striations or whatever they would be called in the different colors.  It did turn out pretty neat, and she really loved it.  They made it for us while we were right in the hot room watching everything they did.  They have some bleachers set up in there for tours and such.  Very neat process.  She kind of got a crush on the guy who made her glass, and since it had to set in their annealing oven over night, she didnt want ol Dad going back to pick it up with her.

Any how here are a few pics of that studio and the experience.

1.Simeon the glass blower getting some hot glass on his pipe

2.pulling a glob of hot glass out of the oven

3.working the glass

4. Jesse Bogenrief the son of the stained glass Bogenrief who started this all, Emily, and Simeon after the glass was done.

The blue shade is a 22" laburnum on a peacock base done in wisteria blue to create the wisteria look.  The floor shade behind Emily is a 28" Magnolia.

Must have been a wonderfull experience, Tom.   Thanks for sharing the pics.   Love all that ornate work (to look at - not to hang in my home, mind!)  Aaah the patience!!
Maybe the goblet's not quite tie dye - but stunning 70's looking colours anyway!
