I think I decided today to go back. It's a $$$$ thing, but I think I am going. Last year was great!

I really wish I could go..but it definitely will be a $$ thing for me.  But I hope that all that do go will have a most excellent time.

If only I didn't have this darned job and it was within driving distance of where I live...drat it.

I understand you can even apply for the Scholarship and request to use the funds to go to something like this. Maybe they would help defray the entry costs??? If that makes it more appealing or possible it's worth a shot??

I was intending to try last year..but two of the people that were going to write letters for me fell down on the job, not their fault..family issues, etc cropped up.

Plus there's the issue of getting time off of my paying (not very well paying, but paying) job.

grrrrr

I hear ya Mal, I have to further elucidate on this one.  My job as a part timer in my office is to fill in for everyone else's vacation time out front...so I've got to check the calendar..it's a big office, but pretty loosely run..so not everyone has put in for their summer vacation for the front office staff.

So I'd ask you to write a letter for me, if I knew I could get the time off to go to it.  I'll check.  There's nothing I'd like better than to be able to say that my work was thought well enough of to be awarded a prize from the American Glass Guild. It would be a real self esteem builder for sure.

Not to mention being able to meet those people that are so talented and have built careers on their technical skill and creativity..I'd be in Art Glass Heaven.

I'm going!  I don't know how I'm going to pay for it, but I'm going.  I'll see you there, Malinda!  And you, too, De - listen to Malinda, she knows what she is talking about.  She was hesitant about applying for a scholarship last year, but all you have to lose is the time it takes to write and email the application!

AGG is glass heaven. So many people sharing what they do. Amazing! I like Vegas too, but this is a different atmosphere and purpose.

In Vegas you go from class to class learning a little more in each. It is perfect for the hot, warm, and cold glass hobbyist and the professional. Awesome experience!

The AGG conference is focused much more toward the traditional panel profession, history, and conservation. It opened my mind to so many aspects of traditional glass that I had never encountered. I know that is not saying much, I am a bit sheltered up here, but I was so impressed.

Comparing the two is to compare apples and oranges.

I will not apply for another AGG scholarship this year, because I received one last year, and it does not seem fair. You should go for it, That is why they raised the money for scholarships, to encourage the spread of great SG knowledge to new and old Glass folks alike.
