I finished this panel finally. It was sold half finished at Christmas time.

I have been playing with fusing and paint a little. How is my Rabbit Man in the moon? I fused the moon with "sand" colored system 96 and blue and green frit. I learned this summer that it is the rabbit in the moon from Australia, not the man in the moon.

For the sky I put clear over the 8"x10" blue opal art. To get the hill to come forward I placed the other part of the clear 8x10 under the opal art. It totaled 2 layers but in different order. That was all full fused.

Second fuse was only to 1380 for the snow on the trees. I wanted the texture.

Third firing was the painted branches.

Four and five were the shadow matts under the trees. I also painted silver mica mixed with aloe vera gel on the tips of the trees toward the moon.

It's hard enough to photograph glass without having to deal with living in the dark! Sorry the photos are not better.

I'm impressed, if I was the customer I would be ordering another with the Northern lights in mind.
I had to look up the rabbit, I had forgotten that, on the whole Aussies don't like rabbits, we even have an Easter Bilby instead of chocolate bunnies.

Soooo pretty Judy! I like how those shadows turned out and the tree branches as well. Very real looking.

Why did you use aloe vera gel?

Tooooo funny!

I can't make another. The blue glass was just perfect for this and I do not have access to more right now. Buying opal off the internet is a dice shoot as to what I will get.

Nancy, I used aloe gel because I read it some where. So I have silver and gold mixed up with aloe gel and it is true, it burns off nice and clean. Since my painting classes I mixed up some with clove oil too. It also works but it stinks! I keep it mixed in a little plastic cup with a lid and it does not dry out for months,  :)  It's much cheaper than writing with those crazy gold pens, and I get more color options. Sometimes I paint it with a brush but usually I just want tiny touches of mica as accent so I use a skewer stick to apply the gel/mica.

After firing you need to wash off the mica that did not fuse into the glass. I don't believe the mica actually fuses to the glass, it is more of an inclusion .

Thanks, that's good info to know.  Have tried using Mica with other mediums but didn't like what I got from it.  Will try this next time I'm doing something I can incorpoate into.

When you figure that one out let me know.  You can do justice to the beauty of nature.  I'm awed enough to know that I would think it a privilege to purchase it from you.  Nothing but knowing how far my artistic ability has gotten me.
