I thought this thread would be a good place for us to show our collections of drop ring photos. The other drop ring vases thread in the Fusing section was a good place for us to learn how these were done. Here are some of Dan's earlier attempts. The only drop ring mold we have at the moment is a flat round dropout 3" inner x 5" outer diameter. Multi-striped drop. Spirit glass drop.

Here is one he made yesterday. The first pic shows how it looked in the kiln before fusing. He made his own stringers with a blow torch.

Very nice Nansea. Where do you get your stands? I especially like the twisted one and the double one.

We got all the stands from thrift and consignment shops. There's a good variety of styles, sizes and shapes out there! The black stands seem to work well as a good backdrop for the glass and they're easy to spray paint if you want another colour.

Thanks for showing the photo before fusing. I had no clue what any of this started out looking like.

That first blue drop one actually started out as a small shallow bowl that he made a couple of years ago, using the same drop mold. After he saw the lengths of drops I was getting, he thought gave it a go. The glass just barely touched the floor of the kiln, but not enough to leave a mark:)

You got some gorgeous stands Nancy. So, are most of these done with one layer of glass, plus in the case of Dan's with the addition of noodles etc. I can see the yellow one is two layers but the rest look like one??

I used 2 layers of 3mm glass. The mistake I did for the first 2 yellow ones was the glass was 2mm. It never dawned on me that I had the same glass but in 2 different thicknesses! The glass, when it goes through the first full fuse, wants to be 1/4" thick, so that's why those 2 yellows slipped off the rim of the mold. If you want to use the thinner glass, just use 3 layers so the total amount is 1/4" thick. Dan's noodle one was done with 2 layers of 2mm glass. I was afraid that the glass would slip off the rim again, but the extra glass from the pulled noodles must have added enough glass to make up for the thickness. Maybe someone else will have some thoughts about that. I'm feeling like a perpetual student in all this kiln stuff, lol.

Even if you find them Di, do go and visit some thrift shops. Sometimes they'll even have them on sale in those places. There are 2 places we really like to go to here, called Stuff Etc. It's a consignment shop. After an item reaches a certain date (I think it's after it's been on the shelf for 3 months) they lower the price by 50% and then a month later, it's reduced again by 80%. We've gotten some fabulous deals that way:)

Nancy, these are all really beautiful. Yer makin me want to try this, but I lack the courage. I may have to come visit for a day or 2 very soon.
Find me a decent (but cheap) hotel close by and I can make it before the end of the month. That way I can spend a day or 2. Should be fully recovered from my heart attack by then.
If I can come let me know what kind of glass to bring, I am going to the glass shop the first part of next week and can pick up anything you think i need. You and Dan can teach me a few tricks I am sure.
Let me know if you want or need more of the wine holders and i can go to the shop here to see if they still have any on hand!

- I want to see the mathematical formula and how you arrived at the aforesaid that resulted in the amazing symetrical fit to the holder in item One. [pics of banging heads on walls allowed]
- The gold one I think you mentioned before, do you have plans for another holder to allow it to be a dropbud vase? I think it would be perfect for some snowdrops and crocus.
- Finally, the exact location in your home where these are stored and your address of course.
...hehe. I needed that giggle! I had to go to the dentist yesterday because of an abscessed tooth. After the swelling goes down (tommorrow) it gets pulled. The assistant asked me if I was allergic to anything and I said DENTISTS! ...lol. Not fun at all, but your comments made me smile. Thanks Yvonne:)
