Here's my shot at it. It's much more colorful in person. The teal and the 2 strips of iridized glass is quite nice.

Nice plaid!!!
I really like how you did the contrasts and the variation of the stripe widths. I also like how the navy offsets the other colours. Nice job. How big is it?

Thanks...it's 7 inches square. I used the mold that was sent to me by mistake.

Ok, here's mine! I guess this could fit into 2 categories...a plaid and a shallow drop. I'm not crazy about the colors now that it's finished but it was leftovers!

Well I like it! Did you use a mold to slump it into or a drop ring?

Question: As I am fairly new to the slumping thing, and still more to learn..here is my chance to pick up a bit more knowledge. The plaid piece I did above was slumped into a mold that had straight beveled sides. reached 1225 and held for 5 mins. The glass did not not take the impression of the corners but are more rounded. If I held longer, would it have slumped completely into the corners?, or just start to slide to the bottom? Is it the norm for these corners to be rounded?

Thanks guys...I'm not totally in like with it! It was slumped into a square drop ring and has a rounded bottom. That part's ok cuz I wanted to put it in a stand.
Kev, a 5 minute hold isn't very long to get a good slump. I think you need to experiment with your hold times at top temp. It still may not have the sharp corners of the mold but you might get a more defined slump.

I don't know what your schedule was but a slow ramp up and a longer hold at the lower end of the slump range works for me.

I have another tray in now slumping into the same mold the daisy tray was reslumped into. It was a Christmas themed design that I had done before the mold broke. I was resigned that this one would be left as a flat tray, but since I got the replacement tray, and it has not cracked yet, I decided today to slump it. I suspect it will take at least 30 mins at 1225 to completely slump, as it is 3/8" thick.

Actually it may not take as long as you think with the weight of the added layer. You might want to watch and see!

That's the same mold I was refering to in the drop ring thread! I haven't been over there to read your reply yet, but how big it that mold? I totally love it! At first, I was wondering why you put it into a stand as well, but when I read that you slumped it, I thought...yaaaa! I love the colours you used and that stand. Where did you get it? I've been getting all my stands from consignment and second hand shops. Way cool:) I really like transparent plaids alot.

If this helps, the average size of the plates I've made so far has been 8-9". I slumped two layers of glass, 1/4" thick (3mm x 2) at 1225°F with a hold of 15 minutes. The only time I had rounded corners was in the first one and one of the fluted plates so it would fit on the 13" kiln shelf. The rest have pointed corners and all slumped down nicely. Looking forward to seeing you try out that fluted mold!
