My companion, Dan, wanted to try out the new Black Aventurine, a blue swirl Aventurine and 2 new striker glasses that we both just got. He made a wee mistake and forgot to change the previous Full Fuse setting so he could do a slump.....opps! Another good lesson learned. I believe we should experience one good boo-boo so we'll know better for the next time. This shows his first attempt unfired. Here you can see the fired result of his first attempt. Far left is the Black Aventurine. Next strip is a Striker glass by Bullseye called Marigold, Orange Streaky Striker. Third long strip it the 'Aventurine Blue-On-White from Bullseye. (Very pretty semi transparent glass). Skipping the center section - the forth long strip is the Green Aventurine. Fifth strip is called a Clear, Red-Orange Streaky Striker from Bullseye. The outside strip on the far right is the dark navy blue Aventurine. This shows the opps. First reaction was surprise, then Oh No!, then in total wonderment at the skin-thin glass bubble over the hole in the center. Another first, lol. The bubble disintigrated when we took it out of the kiln tho. This is his second attempt with the colours changes around a bit and was slumped into a slightly curved square plate mold. The colours really show up nice in this photo. In person, it's a treat:)

I must say..I'm not to big a fan of the adventurine glass in general....doesn't grab me in the least. I've tried it, but not impressed with it. I thought it was made by Spectrum not Bullseye...do they make it too?

the oops plate is not a total loss, get a small bowl that fits in the center and use it as a dip plate... the hole will prevent the bowl from sliding around

I love the green sparkle glass.
That Green Aventurine is also transparent, unlike the solid black and blue ones.

The Black, Dark Blue and Green Aventurine are from Spectrum, but the blue swirl one is a limited edition from Bullseye. We found it advertised in Hoy's sales flier and thought it would be fun to try out. Maybe I'll do a drop ring with some of it.

...the opps one was a surprise for sure. It sure is a great way to learn, lol. He has the second on hanging on the wall right now. This isn't the greatest pic but I really like how the oranges show up in this one.

Those 3 different Bullseye glasses that Dan used were fired as COE 96. They're limited editions, but here are the numbers for them. The Blue swirl one is called BE-2001-AVBW-30F-LTD ...Aventurine Blue On White. The 2 Striker glasses used are 'Bullseye Special Production' - Test Compatible BE-X2025-30F-LTD ...Marigold, Orange Streaky Striker BE-X122-30F-LTD ...Clear, Red-Orange Streaky Striker I'll call Hoy's tomorrow to varify the COE's of those glasses. Good question Anne! I used some of that striker glass a couple of weeks ago and there's no evidence of stress cracks yet. Bullseye also makes the Green & Blue Aventurine...maybe for Spectrum? Spectrum sells them as COE96. I know that some glass companies make glass for another company. Example, Kokomo now makes glass for Armstrong.

The way that the bubble is perfectly centered in the OOPS makes it easy to re-purpose it and pretend that was what you intended all the time.

These are fun exercises, and very pretty. Bullseye only makes COE 90...Spectrum only System 96....they really shouldn't be mixed! Uroboros makes glass for both System 96 and COE 90.
This is my understanding too. And I believe that both Spectrum and Bullseye make green and blue adventurine.

Dan just chuckled at that suggestion. Good one Lou Ann! I actually thought about this plate when I was taking the cream cheese dip I made for work tomorrow out of the mixer -- would have been nice to have a pretty serving plate to put it one with the dip in a clear bowl in the center...

You may get away with mixing the two glasses, but it is very risky. I have never even thought of trying one glass tested to be compatible with the other glasses from the one manufacturer, with another. They are not tested to be compatible with each other, just within the same manufacturer's range. The current exception to that that works is S96. The chinese glass that is an attempt to match bullesye glass is only partially successful.
For reliability, do not mix manufacturers' glasses

We didn't mix the COE's knowingly, Steve. When we saw those 3 glasses in the monthy specials catalogue, it didn't list the COE, only that they were 'Tested Compatible'. At the time, I didn't know that Bullseye was only 90 COE. I just called Hoy's and they confirmed that they are 90 COE. I also mentioned that so far, there are no stress cracks evident yet. He said that they can occur within a week and even 6 months later. After that, then there's a chance that they should be okey. The first plate and the 2 drop rings are the only pieces I didn't use any of the Bullseye striker glass in, so that should be fine. I did the first fuse for the second plate, (red plaid) a little over a week ago and so far, no fractures. Dan's 2 sample plates aren't showing any evidence of stress ...yet. Time will tell for the remaining plaids I've done. What can I say...my toes are crossed. Lesson learned.

Thanks Judy. That was my first thought after talking to Hoy's this morning when I learned about mixing up the COE's. For sure, it goes without saying that nothing will be sold or passed onto another person as a gift until I know for certain they'll be okey.

If one fails, you keep it around to show students. If they don't fail I could give them to real good friends as you tell them how they could break and this is why......., They will become enlightened to new wonders of glass.

Unfortunately Nancy, I don't think there's a time limit on stress causing a problem with the piece.
