These are a couple of gog mosaic commissions that I just finished...thought I would share. I did both of them using silicone this time...usually I use Weldbond. The lighthouse is one of two...the other one is the same design. The lady who bought them wants to give them as Christmas gifts. She just told me that she wanted the lighthouse on one side and just draw whatever I wanted for the rest of it, so I sent her a drawing and thankfully she liked it. Really happy with the way that one turned out. The stripe on the sail and the buoy are painted and then baked. The rooster is for another lady to give as a Christmas gift for a family member. This rooster is the third that I've done so far...who knew roosters were so popular. :)

Thanks, Lou Ann! :) I just started doing gog about a year ago and I have really fallen in love with it. It still gives you the nice stained glass look, but you have so much more freedom to create by doing it in mosaic.

I think I'm going to look for a cheap wood picture frame (8x10 or 11x14) and try one of these...
thanks for inspiring me Meaco

I've been wanting to try GOG, too. I love the lighthouse. If you saw my house you would know roosters were very popular.

they are really nice Meaco!! Ok, stupid question - glass on glass - so your background is clear glass then when it's done your panel hangs in the window and the light shines through? Just curious.

Yup! I glue the mosaic right onto the clear glass. I put two hooks on the top corners of the frame for it to be hung in a window.

Very nice Meaco. I have collected a half dozen wood frames and one old 6 light window that De gave me just before our trip. Now all I have to do is find the time and energy to do so lol. Although if you keep posting these little pretties, it will maybe make me move faster.

Oh those are so nice Meaco! Now you've got me struck with the GOG bug too. I've got a few more 6 over 6 windows left from the barn project. I'm going to have to get busy with them.
Question? What made you switch from the weldbond to silicone? Which do you feel is better for indoor vs outdoor use?
Great projects! De

Back a couple years. one of the mosaic people followed a similar thread on their site and was concerned with the talk of silicone since it is known to change colors. She called the phone numbers on many of the major brands, GE being the most popular, and asked about their products turning yellow when exposed to daylight for extended periods. Of the companies she called, she found no silicone product which was safe.
Perhaps there is one on the market now which one could use. The advent of the dreaded yellow conditions in the future brought on the use of MAC glue. Of course, Weldbond works well if it ever dries to form a clear bond.
my two cents.

I tried the MAC glue and it dries crystal clear and can be purchased here: http://www.marylandmosaics.com/

Yes, it dries very fast. Since it is runny, you have to be certain it is applied to the entire back of the piece so that it will prevent the grout from getting under the piece. You would do that with the other adhesives as well.

Very nice, meaco! I still use Weldbond for glass on glass. It does take longer to cure to clear but, in my opinion, it's worth it.

I tried the silicone on a few smaller pieces and liked how it was completely clear. The problem I had with Weldbond and Liquid Nails is that it does in fact dry clear BUT...I found that when I used it for some larger pieces of glass that it left a white look of glue on the back that never turned clear. I did not like that look at all. Even if I squeezed down pretty hard to get it flat...still left the whitish look on the back. If I am going to spend that much time doing a project I want it to all be clear. The silicone I got that. I have heard about the yellowing of silicone over time...it does worry me. I've always wanted to try MAC, but I just haven't gotten around to ordering it yet. Wish it was available in stores to make it more convenient.

Yup, depending on how much Weldbond you use it sometimes takes longer to cure to clear...also if you grout before the Weldbond has cured you will always have the white. I've never tried MAC...might have to check into it!

Thanks guys! What a great thread! I'll take all the advice on the various glues here under consideration when I get up the nerve to try one of my "windows in waiting". LOL
Thanks a bunch! De
