I am putting this on this board because it would be nice to see the variations that everyone comes up with.
I am happy to send the pattern to anyone who wants it is GE format.
The sections are layered, starting from the largest to the smallest. I put a gem in the middle. I used 2 night light clips on the back to hold it on the top of the tree. You can see one of the clips in the picture. I circled it in the third pic. The second clip is soldered to the back in the center of the piece. I am interested in other ideas for holding it on the tree.

I thought I would put a pic of the topper in use.

That is beautiful. If I didn't just make a tree topper I would make one. I like yours better.

Now I have to add another item to my "I wanna make that someday" list. Very pretty-and I like it a lot better than my current tree topper!

very cool...
what about soldering jump rings perpendicular to the back and using green pipe cleaners to wire them to the tree in addition to what you have

it's really nice Scooch. It looks a bit big for the little tree I'm putting up but it doesn't have to be a tree topper. How big is it?

It's a very fun idea. Is it heavy on a real tree?

It is almost 8" from point to point. It does weigh a little, but I don't think it is to much for the average tree.

Stained glass tree toppers can be a little heavy for some trees. My solution to this possible problem was to put a long (maybe a foot or so) stem on the stained glass piece, which was just a length of 1/4" zinc came. Two or three "tie" wires were soldered to the stem, which were tied around the tree. The stem supports the tree top.

I actually bought a Hallmark tree topper a few years ago that had exact method for holding the tree topper to the tree. They used 2 Velcro straps that were attached to the stick and then wrapped around the tree trunk....worked great!

I love this, Scooch!! Very nice!
I might have to try that method Graham posted...always wanted to make one for the tree, but never knew how it would stay up. Thanks for posting that.

We put up a small tree as well, so a smaller version would look great as well. Nice idea:)

This is good timing..I need to make an angel to be the topper for a friends tree...I was thinking about making several round heavy gauge rings and attaching them to the back of the angel...but maybe a long stick attached to the bottom would also be a good idea.
I don't want it to be too heavy to stand up straight. I do know that it's going on an artificial tree. So keep those ideas flowing.

Okay-I am a bit slow, but I did finally get my holiday photos uploaded to my computer. Here is my version of Scooch's tree topper (thanks a million for both the idea and the pattern). It was very pretty all lit up. Next year we will arrange the lights more carefully in order to take advantage of it fully.
