For many years I have been internet friends with a woman named Pat.
She has a thing for penguins so with that in mind I made these 2 penguin ornaments.
I saw the pattern on the internet via a Google search and I made up my own pattern.
I used an egg to get the oval shape and worked up my pattern from that.
I am not artistic, though I am creative!  wink

these are cute Lady Helen, I would think she'll love them. Penguins seem to be fairly popular at the shows too.

Alan, my definition of an artistic person is someone who
can: draw, paint, carve, or sculpt. (Not sure I'd put
musical in that class unless the person created their own works)

I often take something that already exists and recreate
it sometimes keeping it basically the same, other times
adding my own twist, or I combine things. That to me is creative, not artistic.

I can't draw an oval but I know an egg is oval and I had one so this penguin
started off life as an egg. No yoke!

Well here another definition of artistic, which I fell applies to most of here on this forum, especially #3, and that is what I think you did for those penguins:
ar·tis·tic    (är-tĭs'tĭk)
adj.

   1. Of or relating to art or artists: the artistic community.
   2. Sensitive to or appreciative of art or beauty: an artistic temperament.
   3. Showing imagination and skill: an artistic design.

Found this at http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/artistic

Teehee, penguins all start as an egg.  (just kidding you and being a smarta**)

To have the imagination to use the egg to start your pattern is creative in itself Lady Helen.  There was an art instructor years ago that produced a drawing lesson book (John Negie) (sp?) who showed how to use simple shapes like squares, rectangles, circles and such and create any art design you wanted.  So, without knowing it, you passed his very first lesson in creating.

They look great and your friend will be thrilled with them and that you thought enough of her to make her a special gift.

Helen I totally agree with everyone that has already told you that you are indeed artistic.  Those are very cute, very well done penguins if you ask me.  And your penguin loving friend is going to be delighted with them!

Joan..you've done it again..omg do I ever remember John Nagy...lol..back in the 50's he had a show on television..Learn to Draw with John Nagy.  Another blast from the past.  I never missed the show..and one Christmas I received my own much loved John Nagy Artist set. LOL..have no idea where it is now..but I used to still find little dried up metal tubes of oil paint around here all the time.  Too funny you should mention him.

I'd think also that the penguins would be good sellers at a craft show!

I just gave my granddaughter my "learn to draw book from him (John) that I recieved as my birthday present as a very young teen.  Imagine, I have held onto that book all these years.
