Here is a light table I just finished building for myself. I had no plans:) I just sort of made it up as I went along.
I got a 2'x6' thermo pane window free from a friend of mine. Very heavy! I was able to move it around & flip it over on my own with the help of another table of the same height.

First pic shows the nice heavy wheels I put on.
Second pic is the first stage of the table. Abit over kill, but I wanted it to be strooooong:)
Third shows the 2"x8" supports for the glass sitting on top.

First pic shows the glass sitting on top of the supports. The ends will be left open for ventilation and also makes it easy to change a lightbulb when needed.
Second shows it finished except for the lights.
Third shows how it rolls under the main work bench to give me that extra bit of room.

The inside cavity is all white and the underside of the glass was spray painted with a bright white. I doubt if I'm going to be able to find 6' fluorescents, so a series of three footers will do the trick.
Day time bulbs, right?

That ledge under the lid gives me a nice little spot to store the extra Cutter's Mate parts. Not sure what I'll use the storage for underneath, but it'll present itself soon enough I'm sure, lol.

Nancy you are simply amazing!  I am in serious awe!  From artistic shingling endeavors to building this beautiful light table.
Now that's a great job, and totally functional, I just wish I had all of that space!

nice looking table Nancy.  Question, with the side open like that aren't you afraid that to much exterior light will throw shadows into the box?

Wow Nancy, Came out great and look at the storage you gained!  I took mine all apart, cleaned and painted the inside and out of the wood ant a lot brighter now.  What a little cleaning can do at times.

I have one light fixture slide in to try it out and the light seems to shine up rather than out the ends. The top is larger than the base that the glass is sitting on, but if I find there's too much light escaping, it's an easy fix.
If I can find some 6' fluorescents, I'd like to use 4 of them. If not then I'll have to get eight 3 footers. Eight foot ones would be too long.

I really liked Vic's idea of using the diffuser covers that come with the fixtures and I may still go that route if the white paint underneath doesn't let through enough light. I'll know more when I get the lights set inside. I want to drill some holes to feed the wires down to keep them more organized with a main on/off switch.

It was fun to make:)

Good idea Rebecca:) I already have a 2 tiered table for came with some 6' rain gutters along each long side to hold the shorter lengths. That table's really something to move around, even with wheels!

Thanks for showing me the inside of your table Barbara! I want to make the lights in mine as close together as yours are.

Thanks for your comments everyone:)

My next question would be what kind of tubes would throw off the most light?
