Well, I probably shouldnt have, but I bought a new kiln last nite at my first fusing class.

Now I have to rearrange the studio and do a little more construction with cement board to make a safe place to run it.

Not expecting to do any firing for a little bit as I have a lot of things going on right now, but as soon as I can I will be running up the old electric bill.

Olympic  -   square,  14 inch, 6 deep.   RTC 1000 controller.

Will be reading the manuals a few times in the next week or 2.

Cant find my camera right now, or I would post a pic.

Becki, I will have to put the cement board up as a sort of block for the wall so it wont get overheated and start a fire.  The book says to keep the kiln 18 inches away from anything flammable, but with my room so small with what i already have in it, I would have to have the kiln in the middle of the floor.  The best i can do is about 6 inches away from the wall so am attaching a cement board to the wall for extra protection.

CONGRATULATIONS Tom. Your going to have so much fun.

Tom they do get hot but the outside of the kiln doesn't get that hot . I have mine on rollers and roll it out about a 18" from the wall and nothing around it gets even warm. mine is on a stand on ceramic and so far its perfect.

I will have to see about putting wheels on the stand, do you have the kiln attached to the stand or just sitting on top of it.  Mine just sits on top, and i havent really looked to see if i can attach it permanent yet.

Is this the one you got Tom? 120v?

My kiln just sits on the stand with wheels and a ceramic tiled surface on the stand like Diane's is. I posted a pic of it somewhere but here it is again.
Mine is also a 120v - regular household currant. One thing I want to do is to have it's own braker in the panel box so it won't kick out if I want to operate something else at the same time the kiln is going.

How long is your course for?

P.S. I'm leaving for Iowa on late Wednesday - early Thursday. Wish me luck:)

yup, thats the one Nancy.  The stand is 18 inches high so i dont need to worry about the floor, but would really like to attach the kiln to the stand, it just seems to me it could move around, and being the klutz i am dont want to knock it off.  I guess I can put wheels on the stand easy enuf.

Tom, I used a 2x2 ft. piece of plywood and covered it with a piece of sheet metal and then put wheels on it.....cheap and functional.
