I've never tried the Crisco idea, but did find that adding a slight bit of moisture....to the back of the suction cup before applying it to the glass gives better adhesion.  Of course I don't use suction cups very often, I usually go with Anne's idea of hooks in the frame of the window, then I know that the glass is safe.
I also DO NOT use fishing line to hang anything from, the sun degrades it and when you least expect it...crash.

if you want the look of fishing line (ie no hanger displaying) I use fishing leaders which are stainless steel wire wrapped in nylon -- they come with a metal thingy at each end that I cut off and then put the loops that the metal was attached to through a jump loop... I've had a couple hanging in the TN sun with no degradation at all -- one of the packages I have says they are rated for 30 lbs

I buy them at Walmart in 6", 9", 12" and 18" lengths and they break down to about $.30 each

I use the fishing leader wire as well for the smaller things.
What I want to know is where I can buy a large spool of it. I saw a roll up here at a retail shop for $79 a roll. I should be able to get that wholesale somewhere? For the heavier panels, I use varying guages of jack chain.

I know some people who fish so I'll ask but what I use doesn't come on a spool -- there are loops on either end that are created by wrapping a length of wire over the the folded over nylon covered wire (hope that makes sense)

Hi Lou Ann

The stuff that they use for fishing leaders can be bought by the spool. I've seen it, but I thought that it was a to expensive at retail value. The wire I saw on the spool said "Nylon Coated Steel Leader" ...the exact same thing that the fisher folks use. Buying it already made up in small pkgs winds up being more expensive in the long run...especially if you use alot of it. The cheaper alternative would be for me to locate the manufacturer who makes that wire and hopefully buy it direct from them.
All I need to know is who makes it, lol.
That $79 spool that I saw was at a small stained glass shop about 5 hours from me. It might be worth the drive just to see the manufacture's name, lol.

I've never used the nylon wrapped leader wire so I can't answer that question Nancy. Sorry.  But.if the leader wire is wire or steel I can't imagine it wouldn't be.

Well Malinda it dosent matter when you started its that they are getting done. I love them and I like the silver coats but never used them . Dont you have to seal the edges like mirror with it?

Yes, you do indeed Di.  Same as mirror..and same issues I suspect, I'd definitely use an edge sealant of some kind.

Here's a better link. smiley
Anybody hear of Rings & Things? They're great people to deal with and their prices are good. I'll check them out when I go down to the states this winter. This might help someone who is looking for an alternative to nylon fishing wire. This coated wire doesn't kink and is very strong. You can get different gauges for bead work and other 'heafty' purposes.

You might be able to find that wire in a sporting goods store or a fishing tackle place...either in bulk (spool) or pre-assembled in
various lengths with swivel and attaching hardware.

Nice work Malinda!!! Check out a sporting goods store in your area and ask for leader wire in bulk. Way safer than nylon wire:)
