I'm doing a project and didn't have nuggets that were the match I wanted (go figure, I have a wall of nuggets but not the right color, sound familiar?)  Anyway, I figured well no problem, I have a kiln, I'll just make some in the color I want, which was pink.  Wiss 136 to be exact.  So I cut them and put them in the kiln yesterday with another full fuse project.  I took them out this am and found they'd fired to a darker shade and hadn't shrunk at all (as most stuff we fuse does to some degree. This wasn't fusible glass I used but I was planning to foil them anyway so I figured no big deal.  So..........having them fire to a darker shade isn't what I wanted - they came out as dark as SP 146.  Drag.  So I guess I'll be trying again tomorrow with a lighter pink and see if I can get closer to the color I can work into the project on the go. Anyone else have this happen when trying to make nuggets?

two Kev. Have done them that way before but maybe I just cut these too big??  They were about 5/8" - and they didn't round off either.  Fired kinda square

Try 3 layers..the glass will want to shrink to 1/4 inch..2 layers is already 1/4 inch..no shrinkage and not much rounding off..3 layers will produce better results in my humble opinion.

I've not tried nuggets with non-fusible glass but I think the problem is that it's Wissmach and it needs a higher temp or longer hold.  I've done nuggets (or dots) with 1, 2 and 3 layers...1 and 2 will shrink somewhat, 3 usually spreads.  The darkening is just a chance you take with Wissmach.

The darkening might be striking.  I made some dots out of red Spectrum waterglass and they were black.  Then I used orange Spectrum waterglass and they became a weird opaque orange.  I tried red Wissmach English Muffle and got opaque mustard yellow.  Then red gluechip gave me more black.  Striking is fun!

But what was frustrating for me is I didn't want it darker.  I was trying to match what I was working on hoping for that end result to no avail. I really like Wissmach for cold glass but am not liking what I see and hear when it's fired. Oh well, I know for next time.

It is frustrating when you're planning on one thing and get another.  Good luck, kiddo!

I can see that happening on the Red streaky Di cause the glass is flowing and the amber and white in it mutes the Red.

If you take your pink glass...or any glass...a single layer and hold it up to the light is that the color you want? If you take two layers, overlap them and hold them up to the light it is a darker color than one layer.  If you hold up three layers it would be darker still.

So, if you want light pink and use more than one layer it is going to be darker. Do you have a lighter pink you can try, Anne?

Now doesn't that make sense.  Thanks Linda! Will check that and see how close I get to what I want.

This is a question obviously from someone that knows nothing about fusing...but can you layer the correct pink with a clear in order to get the shape and size needed?

I certainly am glad I found you guys!  Another good thought De, thanks.  Will look at that too.  Can never have too many pink nuggets anyway right?
