A frosted bulb may make a difference as well.

wrong time of year but aren't the old fashioned outside Christmas lights the same base as the plug -- they might be large enough to light it all up without creating a hot spot...

Lowes have a good selection of the C and nite lite sizes. Check out the gold iridized candle shapes and there is a solid red/amber flame shape that seems all wrong but looks pretty good lit up. I usually stock up in Nov when Walmart have the Christmas stuff.  The Christmas village that the Dollar Tree sells has the fan light clip fitting with white wiring for a buck!

Word of caution with these -- the cord lengths are not all uniform, they vary from 3' - 5' and I have had quite a few of the clips break

It's 9 3/4" wide and 10 " tall excluding the base extension.

I etched the back..it's very subtle, but does make the clear blue a little less transparent. I think the trick it to use opal glass for the base and fuse the clear colors on top of it. You can see in the pic how the sky is not as clear as it was.

The hot spot you have is caused by the design of the fan.  They all do that and can be toned down with either a smaller light bulb or the use of a dimmer.  However, when the piece is much taller, i.e., it extends much farther from the bulb, it won't be illuminated as much as the other areas.

I agree Wayne..there is no getting around the hot spot. Currently I have a 7 watt bulb in it...any dimmer than that, and there would not be much point in turning it on...lol. I think also if the base was elongated so the bulb was set further back, that would help as well. I tried a frosted bulb and it made no difference either.

The only other choice would be a tubular bulb with a dimmer.  But if it does illuminate more of the piece, you will notice a longer hotspot.  If you stay with the small bulb (the way it is), then you only needed to etch the lower section of the piece.

The smaller bulb for this piece is the better choice. I etched the whole back so the light would be more diffused in the sky. A learning experience as always..lol

I'm somewhat happy with it. I think placed in the right spot it could add a bit of color.
